For nearly three years the pop star covered the pain with her beaming smile and hours of carefully applied makeup but at home the scene was one of misery and violence.
"It was like living two completely parallel lives, she explained."I was going on stage and performing in front of thousands of people and feeling so confident and at home I was a mouse, I was treading on eggshells, I wouldn't do anything to upset him - but he always found something." Thankfully the latest Loose Women presenter found the strength to leave after giving birth to her daughter Teja, whose father was the abuser."The turning point for me was being hit while I was holding my little baby," she said.
Her filmography also includes her own TV documentaries, including Jamelia: Whose Hair Is It Anyway (2008), her own edition of the popular Channel 4 show, The House That Made Me and in 2011, her own BBC Three documentary, Jamelia: Shame About Single Mums.
In 2010 she signed a new record deal with All Around the World Productions.
"I am very open with my daughters, there is no topic in my house which is taboo." But Jamelia, 32, admitted having that conversation was one of the hardest things she's ever had to do."I sat her down and we spoke about it and it was the worst conversation I've ever had in my life, it was so difficult but I wanted her to come out of it with a positive outlook," she said.
Jamelia's ten-year-successful career span has led her to becoming a judge on shows such as Move Like Michael Jackson in 2009.
The singer - who had been single for eight years - said at the time: "Since the day I met him no one else has existed.
